This site counts its visits to find out which pages are read and where readers come from. This page says exactly what the system does, and what it does not do.
What is measured
Each time a page is displayed, the site sends a single piece of information to the Groupe Agel counter, which runs on our own server. It contains three things: the site identifier, the address of the page viewed and the name of the site that brought you here, a search engine or a social network for example. If you came directly, the origin is recorded as "direct".
From this the server keeps three counters per day: the number of page views for each page address, the number of visits, and the number of visits by origin. These are numbers and nothing else.
What is not measured
- No cookie is placed on your device.
- Nothing is written in your browser, neither in local storage nor in session storage.
- No IP address is kept.
- No identifier follows you from one day to the next.
- There is no profile, no individual browsing history and no personal data, and nothing is cross-referenced with any other source.
The fingerprint, and why it does not follow you
To avoid counting the same person twice in the same day, the server computes a fingerprint from four elements: a salt, your IP address, your browser's technical signature and the site identifier. The result is a string of 32 characters from which neither the IP address nor the browser can be recovered. The IP address is not written anywhere.
The salt is a random number, renewed at the start of each new day. The previous day's fingerprints are discarded with it. Two visits separated by a night therefore cannot be linked to each other.
The browser's technical signature is also used to exclude indexing and analysis bots, which are not readers. It is not kept.
What a visit is
A visit is one distinct visitor on one day. Someone who comes back on three days counts as three visits. We do not know, and do not try to find out, how many distinct people are behind a week of visits.
How long it is kept
The daily counters, which contain only numbers, are kept for 400 days and then deleted. One day's fingerprints are deleted when the next day begins.
Not being measured
If your browser sends the Do Not Track signal or the Global Privacy Control signal, the counter does not run at all: no information is sent.
A content blocker that prevents the call to the counter has the same effect, and the site works normally in both cases.
